Italy confirms its leadership among the world wine producers despite a slight decrease in volume by 2% compared to 2015 and only -1% compared to the last 5 years. The quality should be good too. As often, there is contrast among the regions : the wine production is expected to increase by +5% in Piemonte & Emilia-Romagna and by +2% in Veneto, Lazio, Abruzzo & Puglia while a decrease of -4% in Friuli Venezia Giulia, -8% in Toscana, -9% in Trento Alto Adige, -13% in Lombardia, -15% in Sicilia and -20% in Campania.

Estimates are available on Scarica il Dossier previsioni vendemmiali from ISMEA web site.

According to the French Ministry of Agriculture, the forecast made on 10/1/16 indicates a harvest at 42,2 Mhl, a decrease of 12% compared to last year and 9% against the 5 years average. It should be the lowest harvest over the last 3 decades. The Spring frost had a big impact on Champagne (-32%) Burgundy-Beaujolais (-19%) and Loire Valley (-29%). The hail had also impacted on Charentes (-14%), Burgundy-Beaujolais and Languedoc-Roussillon (-6%). At the opposite, the harvest is increasing in South West (+1%), South East (+1%), Alsace (+12%) and Bordeaux (+16%). Corse remains at the same level.

N.B. the above estimates are for AOP wines only (except from Charentes).

Winter precaution

Winter precaution

With Fall & Winter coming in, some changes in temperature are to be expected especially in sensitive areas such as the Mid-West and/or when your wines are shipped from far away sailing with a long transit time making difficult the anticipation of temperature upon arrival.

Please note that the coverage of "alteration of temperature" with a container equipped with thermal blanket is suspended during the period from November 1 (date of arrival) through March 31rst for any shipment going to the Mid-West Area – Great Lakes area or any “remote” inland destinations.

So it is recommended to use reefer containers to prevent and protect your wines with that upmost solution.
